ILLINOIS CENTRAL R. R.
Samuel Work had charge of the Illinois Central station for seventeen years, when he was succeeded by J. H. Mitchell. On July 27, 1874, C. J. Van Pelt was checked in, and held the position until checked out on November 9, 1893. Mr. Van Pelt was a hard worker, and a popular agent, drawing a large amount of business to his company. Mr. Van Pelt was succeeded by H. C. Whitmore, who only kept it a few months, when he was succeeded by E. Durham. The latter became dissatisfied and left, being replaced by A. B. Thierry, who is the present agent. Howard Whitmore is freight clerk and W. O. Mackay, baggage man.
SANTA FE R. R.
The Chicago, Pekin & Southwestern R. R. road was completed in 1872, but was absorbed by the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe, and is now known as the Pekin branch of the Santa Fe. The first agent on the Santa Fe was Samuel Work. Then followed L. T. Burnham, H. L. Anderson, G. L. Walker, George Kranz, H. M. Duncan, Dan Coughlin and C. L. Walker, the present agent. J. E. Schroyer is clerk.
