OUR OLDEST CITIZENS

Mrs. Benjamin Pope is the oldest living citizen of Minonk, having lived here continuously since 1854. Mrs. C. W. Goodrich, Mrs. H. A. Christians and Mrs. Thomas Sutton come next in order.

M. A. Cushing came to Minonk in August 1860, and with his brother, S. D. Cushing, and G. H. Jenkins, engaged in the drug business, under the firm name of M. A. Cushing & Co. After something over twenty year's business, they sold out to G. W. and A. N. Cushing.

The Minonk Bank was opened in 1869 by A. J. Baker. In 1872, G. H. Jenkins, W. R. Dunn, S. D. Cushing and M. A. Cushing, bought Baker out and ran the business under the firm name of Jenkins, Dunn & Co. After the death of Mr. Jenkins and S. D. Cushing the business was conducted by W. R. Dunn and M. A. Cushing, under the firm name, until May 1895, when they sold the business to C. R. Danforth & Co., who conducts the business in a safe, legitimate way for their patrons.
