Minonk sets date for Luminaria Display

Thursday, November 6, 2003 Posted 11:00 a.m. Reported by Cathy McKay
The annual Minonk Luminaria Display is scheduled for Saturday, December 20, 2003 with a rain date of Sunday, December 21, 2003. It is an opportunity to meet with new neighbors and with those you haven't seen for awhile, and a time to enjoy the holiday spirit. You are also welcome to participate in lighting your luminaries for the Parade of Lights, Saturday, December 6, 2003.

All of the order forms will be distributed in early November. If residents of Minonk cannot find them, order forms are still available at the following businesses: Cunningham Candies, City Hall and www.minonktalk.com.

To order luminaries the deadline is November 21. To place an order residents can drop off completed order forms at Cathy McKay's home, 626 Locust St. or leave a written note or a phone message with the amount of luminaries wanted, their name, address, and phone number. The cost for a kit with 10 luminaries is $7, for 20 luminaries is $14, or for 30 luminaries is $21. Make checks payable to: Minonk Luminaria Display.

The price of the luminaries covers the complete kit, including the candles, paper bags, limestone and instructions. An average lot will use 10 luminaries; corner lots will use approximately 20 luminaries. Ideally luminaries should be placed 10 feet apart. Pick up is November 29 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the brick building on the corner of 4th and Chestnut Streets, the south door (the old Goodwin Building).

If you cannot pick up your kit please make arrangements for someone else to do so during the designated time. We hope the community wishes to continue with this event and that it will grow and welcome anyone wishing to volunteer to please feel free to contact us.
