Fieldcrest security tightened

Thursday, September 11, 2003 Posted 9:00 a.m.
Friction between different factions of students has resulted in heightened security and suspension of priviledges at Fieldcrest High School. Principal Steve Wallick closed all school entrances except one and limited students to their classrooms on Monday and Tuesday of this week.

Students had attempted to cut down a tree after a football game last week. The tree was used by smokers before and after school and was referred to as the "Smokers Tree". The action appeared to be the result of a dispute among different groups of students. In addition, there were reports of a fight between students in front of a downtown business this past week. These incidents led Wallick to heighten security at the school in order to prevent disputes from spilling over into the classroom.

Restrictions were removed on Wednesday but school officials are continuing to monitor the situation.
