Marie McKeon to celebrate 100th birthday

Tuesday September 9, 2003 Posted 10:00 p.m.
An open house will be held at St. Peter's Parish Hall (1 mile west of Benson) on Saturday, September 27, 2003, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to celebrate the 100th birthday of Marie McKeon.

Marie was born to Fred and Edena Peters Broers, their first born, on September 30, 1903 at their home a mile east and two miles south of Minonk.

Marie married Gilbert McKeon in May 1924. Their children are: Jean Flohr of Benson, Dale McKeon of Upland, California and JoAnn Broecker of Alta Loma, California. Two sons, Bob and Mike (Merle) are deceased.

Gil and Marie were married 54 years. From 1936 to 1963 Gil and Marie owned operated Minonk Produce. Gil passed away in 1989 one week before their 55th anniversary.

Marie is very interested in people and the world. She reads, knits afghans, plays the piano, does crafts and enjoys visiting with people. She lives independently, still cooking, baking and maintaining her own apartment.

"Aunt Marie" as she is known to numerous nieces and nephews, and "Grandma" to 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren is an inspiration to those who know and love her.

For those interested in remembering Marie with a card or letter, her address is:
