Springfield - State Senator Dan Rutherford (R-Pontiac) will make his semi-annual trip to Washington, D.C. this week to meet with area Congressional leaders. While there, Rutherford is set to also meet with top Congressional staff for a briefing on transportation and Medicare issues affecting the 53rd District.

The meeting coincides with the 30th Annual Conference of the American Legislative Exchange Council, giving Illinois lawmakers the opportunity to meet with Speaker Denny Hastert-s staff.

-I look forward to the Congressional briefing on transportation and Medicare,- said Rutherford. -I work closely with Speaker Hastert and with our local Congressman - Representatives Tim Johnson, Jerry Weller and Ray LaHood - to keep them apprised of state issues and to learn what they are doing for our local counties. We have always had a great working relationship and this briefing is part of us working together.-

Rutherford will join several Illinois State Senators for the briefing, giving them a chance to learn more about the status of pending road projects in their home districts and the details of the new Medicare plan.

The meeting will take place on July 31 in Washington, D.C. Rutherford makes two trips annually to meet with the Illinois Congressional Delegation. His last trip was in January for the State of Union address.

Rutherford-s trip to Washington, D.C. is at no cost to the taxpayers.
