The 21st annual Parade of Lights was held in Minonk Saturday night. The temperature was in the upper 30's and a large crowd turned out
to see the biggest parade yet. The city lights were turned off
at 6:30 and was followed by a fireworks display from the north end of town.
The fireworks was funded by the Minonk Businessmen's Association. The parade followed with 52 entries ending
with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus in their sled. Mr. and Mrs. Garmer Kleen Jr. were again playing the role
of the Clauses. Afterwards children gathered to have their picture taken with Santa at City Hall.
Crafts were sold at the Picket Fence prior to the parade and the Country Florist provided punch and
cake with music provided by 5 violinists. Many former Minonk residents returned this year to see the
parade and to renew acquaintances. The parade put everyone in a holiday spirit. The City of Minonk
and those who put together
the parade are to be commended for their hard work in making the Parade of Lights an annual event that
everyone looks forward to each year.
