Local women inducted into honor society

Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society for the two-year college. Rho Omega Chapter at Illinois Valley Community College joins over 1200 other chapters across the United States, Canada, and U. S. Territorial possessions in honoring academic excellence among its students. In addition to academic excellence, Phi Theta Kappa promotes service to community and provides leadership opportunities for its members.

Membership in Phi Theta Kappa, Rho Omega Chapter, is based on a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 and completion of at least 12 hours of course work at Illinois Valley Community College. Membership is by invitation only and initiation is generally conducted twice each year.

Rho Omega promotes a sense of community at Illinois Valley Community College and is one of the most respected organizations on campus.

Fifty members were inducted into PTK. Guest speakers for the formal induction on September 20 were Marianne Dzik and PTK President Jamie Fast. Dzik, dean in the division of english, math and education, spoke about having balance in ones life.

New members of the Rho Omega Chapter of PTK include Rutland women: Christina Jenkins and Trisha Linn. Both women are of sophomore status and were on the Fall 2003/ Spring 2004 President's List for High Honors.
