Fieldcrest High School Going to Remote Learning Until Sept. 24th

Sunday, September 13, 2020 - Posted 5:54:30 PM

The following letter was sent to Fieldcrest families by Superintendent Dr. Kari Rockwell.

Dear Fieldcrest Families,

Our community is experiencing a growing number of COVID19 cases and quarantines due to close contact exposures. While the positive cases occurred outside of school hours, we know that due to the gathering place nature of our school system, we are now feeling the effects. We were notified this weekend of 4 positive cases and our quarantine number is now at 58. Our staff have done their due diligence in tracking student movements and greatly reducing the close contact interactions amongst students and staff.

In an effort to provide the best possible instruction for all students in the safest environment possible, we are making the decision to move all high school students to full remote instruction effective immediately through Thursday, September 24th. The tentative return to in-person instruction will be Friday, September 25th.

All other Fieldcrest schools (Primary, Intermediate, Middle), will remain open for in-person instruction at this time. Bus Transportation will run as normal.

Remote instruction for the high school will require that students currently in-person, be available during regular school hours. This will include sessions with staff and checking in virtually (attendance will be taken in every class), following the current schedule in place. Students will begin Monday, September 14 following the EVEN block schedule, meeting/checking in with their 2nd hour teacher beginning at 8:15 am. Students should check with Schoology for more information from their teachers. BACC students will continue with in-person instruction as scheduled. BACC students will need to be at the high school by 11:15 am for temperature checks before departing on the bus. Cooperative work students will also be allowed to attend their work experiences as scheduled. Parents are asked to continue to self-certify students attending BACC and CoOp Work programs. Driver education students will meet virtually for classes when the 1st hour class meets. However, driving lab students will NOT be driving during this period of Remote Learning.

Students participating in extracurricular "in season" activities will continue to be able to practice and engage in contests at this time. Athletes must continue to be self certified by parents before attending a practice or contest. All scheduled "out of season" contact days will be suspended until in-person instruction returns. Student athletes should remain in contact with their coaches for specific details.

The Planning Day scheduled for 9/23 remains on the schedule- no student requirements on this day and no meals due to staff planning.

High school families in need of breakfast and lunch can pick up meals from 10:00am through 11:00am daily in the front parking lot at Fieldcrest Primary, Fieldcrest Intermediate, and Fieldcrest Middle. Only a healthy, non-quarantined family member should pick up meals.

In closing, the start of school has been a positive experience. Students and staff have worked well together to implement procedures in providing the safest, engaging learning environment possible. This decision is meant to ensure that the long term viability of in-person instruction is possible.

Thank you,

Kari L. Rockwell
