Volunteers pour pavilion floor

Saturday, August 9, 2003 Posted 5:30 p.m.
Workers move concrete from two cement trucks while pouring the floor for the Westside Park Pavilion.
Members from the Operative Plasters and Cement Masons Local 18, Area 152 and from the Labor Local 996 provided volunteers to pour the concrete floor at the Westside Park pavilion Saturday. The crew started at 8:00 a.m. and by 10:00 a.m. over 35 yards of concrete had been poured into the 2400 square foot floor. By 1:00 p.m. the floor was completely finished. Dave Uphoff of the Westside Park Pavilion Committee said that the project went very smooth and the end result is a very professionally finished floor. Uphoff said that he is deeply grateful to the union members who donated their time. As a former member of local 996 himself, Uphoff said that he is proud of the civic attitude displayed by Business Agent Dave McBride of Local 996 and John Mozingo of Local 18, Area 152 and their members. Without their support the pavilion could not have been built.

The next phase of the project is to lay the blocks for the building. The blocks are on order and should be delivered within two weeks from Roanoke Concrete.

Finishers trowel the floor to a smooth finish.
