Culver-Stockton College softball coach Gretta Melsted announced recently that Sarah Breyne has signed an athletic agreement to attend school and play softball for the Wildcats, beginning with the 2004-05 school year.
Breyne, a 5-foot-8 pitcher from Wenona, Ill. (Fieldcrest HS), was a Mid-State Conference first team pitcher in 2004 after recording a 14-4 record with a 0.85 earned run average. She garnered 205 strikeouts in 124 1/3 innings pitched. In addition, she was the Fieldcrest most valuable player for three consecutive seasons, recorded the lowest ERA the last two seasons and had the highest batting average last year. She can also play the outfield and first base.
For her performance last season, she was named to the Bloomington Pantagraph and the LaSalle News Tribune all-area teams. Sarah is the daughter of Michael and Nancy Breyne of Wenona, Ill.
Culver-Stockton is affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and is a member of the 11-team Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) with schools located in Missouri, Kansas and Iowa. The Wildcats completed the 2004 season with a 31-33 overall record and claimed its second straight (fifth overall) HAAC Tournament championship. Culver-Stockton made its eighth appearance in the NAIA Region V Tournament, finishing in third place.
