New conference to replace Midstate

Friday July 2, 2003 Posted 10:30 a.m.
The Midstate Conference will be dissolved after the 2005-2006 school year. Thirteen area schools will form a new conference that will consist of schools from the Midstate Conference and the Sangamon Valley Conference. The new unnamed conference will begin operations in the 2006-2007 school year.

School consolidations played a part in the decision to form a new conference. Gridley has merged with El Paso and Chenoa will become part of the Prairie Central school system. All remaining Midstate Conference schools except for Woodland and Tri-Point will be part of the new conference. Woodland will join the Tri-County conference after the 2004-2005 school year.

The original members of the Midstate Conference when it was formed in 1949 were Chenoa, Cornell, El Paso, Fairbury, Flanagan, Gridley, Lexington, and Minonk-Dana.
