The Westside Park Pavilion Committee met Thursday night at St. Paul's Church to discuss a new plan to
build the proposed pavilion in the Westside Park. Committee member Dave Uphoff mentioned that he has
been in contact with members of the local trade unions who have expressed interest in helping construct
the pavilion with donated labor by the unions. Committee Dean Barth has scheduled a meeting with the
head of one of the unions to organize the project. The goal of the plan is to have each different union
help construct the pavilion when the project involves the expertise of the particular union.
Members of the committee thought that this plan was worth pursuing since it means that the pavilion can
be built with available funds because labor cost would be reduced to a minimum. All bids received
so far have exceeded the funds available for the pavilion project. Members also felt that
building the pavilion with donated labor was in keeping with the spirit of a community project.
Barth and Uphoff will meet with other unions in the construction industry in the next few weeks and then
report back to the committee to determine if the entire project can be organized with volunteer union labor.
