Downtown at night - 1954

This photo of downtown Minonk in 1954 shows the mercury vapor lights that were newly installed. The lights made it bright enough to read a newspaper anywhere in the lighted area. The final estimated cost was below $10,000, an exceptional bargain.

The installations were made by Ralph Grampp and Harry D. "Babe" Smith with help from the city crew and some hired assistance from Petri Bros.
