Minonk's city government consists of an elected mayor, six aldermen, a city clerk and an appointed city administrator. The city council meets at 7:00 pm the first and third Mondays of each month.

The mayor and the aldermen serve a four year term with elections held every 2 years in April. There are several committees that consist of usually one or two aldermen and appointed residents of the city.
