Herbert Uftring - April 11, 2002
Herbert Uftring, 82, of 535 W. 4th St., Minonk, passed away at 6:00 AM, Thursday, April 11, 2002, at
Illinois Veterans Home, LaSalle.
Funeral Services for Mr. Uftring will be 11:00 AM, Monday, April 15, 2002, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Minonk, with the Rev. Craig Swenson officiating. Burial with military rites will following in Minonk Twp. Cemetery, Minonk. Visitation will be from 4 - 7 PM, Sunday at the Folkers-Froelich Memorial Home and 1 hr. before the service at the church. Memorials may be made to his church or the VA Home in LaSalle. Mr. Uftring was born July 5, 1919, in rural Metamora, the son of Lorenz and Emma Wehrli Uftring. He married Irene Fischer on Jan. 11, 1946, in Stover, MO. She survives. Also surviving are five sons, Gary (Kay) Uftring of East Peoria, Danny (Donna) Uftring of Washington, Ron (Char) Uftring of Washington, Rick (Linda) Uftring of Minonk, and Herb (Sandy) Uftring of Washington; one daughter, Kathy (RJ) Whitworth of Bloomington; three brothers, Raymond Uftring of Lacon, Lorenz (Helen) Uftring of Holt, MO, and Kenneth Hogden of Streator; one sister, Lorraine Brewer of Rutland; ten grandsons, six granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren. His parents, one brother, two sisters, and one grandson preceded him in death. Mr. Uftring served in the European Theater during WW II as an Army Combat Engineer. He received several medals including the Bronze Star. He also received a special award from France for his involvement in their liberation. Mr. Uftring was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Minonk and the Minonk American Legion. He was a farmer in the Flanagan & Minonk areas. He also worked for the City of Minonk for 11 - years before retirement. Mr. Uftring enjoyed farming, working for the city and working with antiques. |
