Glen H. Smith - February 11, 2001

PONTIAC -- Glen H. Smith, 91, of Pontiac died at 12:55 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 11, 2001) at OSF Saint James Hospital, Pontiac. A graveside service was held Tuesday at Minonk Township Cemetery, Minonk, the Rev. Neri Greskoviak officiating. There was no visitation. Memorials may be made to Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Minonk.

Mr. Smith was born Dec. 21, 1909, at McCook, Neb., a son of Christian and Mary Elizabeth DeVilliers Smith. He married Alice Louise Lepper on Sept. 12, 1929, at McCook. She died April 16, 1998. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Hohimer, Springfield; and Margy (Robert) Uphoff, Minonk; a son, Rolland (Sue) Smith, Orland Park; a brother, Lloyd (Edna) Smith, Cambridge, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Markwell, and three brothers. Also preceding him in death was a grandson, Jerry Chambers.

Mr. Smith moved from Nebraska to Minonk in April 1939, then to a farm near Rutland. He retired from farming in 1959. During this time he served nine years on the M-D-R School Board District 108. He then moved back to Minonk on May 15, 1960. He was employed at Pontiac Correctional Center for 17 years, retiring in 1977. He moved to Pontiac in 1970.
