William J. Shuck - December 29, 2002

William J. Shuck, 87, of 500 Centennial Dr., East Peoria, formerly of 235 Green Acres Court, East Peoria, died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 29, 2002) at Manor Care at Riverview, East Peoria.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Minonk, with the Rev. Daniel Gansch-Boythe officiating. Burial will be in Minonk Township Cemetery, Minonk. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Remmert Funeral Home, East Peoria, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Memorials may be made to Shriner Crippled Children's Hospital or to the American Cancer Society.

He was born Nov. 28, 1915, at Panola, a son to William and Greta DeVries Shuck. He married Ruth L. Ioerger on July 25, 1941, at Minonk. She died Nov. 9, 1972, at Peoria. He later married Phyllis Schoon on Dec. 4, 1976, at Benson. She died June 13, 1992, at Peoria.

Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Shuck-Hoehne, East Peoria; a step-son, Larry Schoon, East Peoria; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, John D. Shuck, Peoria.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one grandson.

William was a graduate of Bradley University in 1939. He was an Inspection Superintendent for CAT, retiring in 1975 after 35 years of service. He also farmed in Woodford County.

He was a World War II veteran, Lieutenant on LST in the Pacific Theatre. He was of the Lutheran faith.

He was a member of: the American Legion posts, both in Washington and Benson; Woodford County Flying Association; Woodford County Historical Society; Mohamed Temple Shrine and its Flying Nobels; the Woodford County Farm Bureau; Caterpillar Retirees Club; Bradley Alumni; and was a volunteer at the Wheels of Time.
