John J. "Zip" Schneider Jr. - November 30, 2002

NORMAL -- John J. "Zip" Schneider Jr., 87, of 406 Tilden Place, Normal, formerly of Minonk, died at 2:10 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 30, 2002) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal. His funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington, and at 10 a.m. at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal, with Monsignor Eric Powell officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the rosary recited at 4 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Epiphany Catholic Church.

He was born Nov. 30, 1915, in Clayton Township, Woodford County, the son of John J. and Rose Hindert Schneider Sr. He married Benita Clifford Feb. 17, 1942, in Peoria. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Vicki Finfrock, Mount Morris, and Shelley (Gary) Gilfillan, Towanda; two sons, Terry Schneider, Decatur; and Jeff (Brenda) Schneider, Armington; two sisters, Emily Schneider, Minonk; and Mary (Harold) Gephart, Benson; five brothers, Louis (Dorothy) Schneider, Flanagan; Leland (Joan) Schneider and U.J. (Ruth) Schneider, both of Minonk; Jim Schneider, Benson; and Frank (Mabel) Schneider, Paradox, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Edmund and Francis "Ollie" Schneider, preceded him in death.

He farmed in Minonk and moved to Normal in 1980.

He was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal, and the Loyal Order of Moose and the Woodford County Farm Bureau.

Mr. Schneider went out of his way to visit friends and neighbors in times of need.
