He died at 1:42 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 9 2002) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

Memorials may be directed to a charity of a donor's choice.

He was born May 27, 1945, in Elgin, the Son of Vincent and Laurreta Fitzsimons Carlson. He married Diane "Willi" Willhelm on April 26, 1971 in Elgin. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter Katy Carlson, Minonk; and Kirby Carlson, Peoria; one sister, Karen "Roger" Siegmeir, Eagle River Wis.; and two brothers, Terry "Nancy" Carlson, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Robert Carlson, Elgin.

His parents preceded him in death.

He graduated from Elgin School District in 1963 and had been employed by Teleweld Inc. in Streator for 20 years until 1994.

He served in the Army's 101st Airborne.

As a husband, a parent, a son, a brother and friend, he was loved by all and all he loved. He enjoyed the young years of partying, the many years of restoring cars in the garage and the end years of fishing, golf and AA meetings.

Those are the things he enjoyed, these are what he loved. He loved the people in AA and the laughs and cries they shared, talking and laughing with his friends; hugging his wife and laughing with her. He loved watching his daughter laugh and the kindness at her heart; having coffee and joking with his son. He loved his parents, brothers and sister. He loved his animals through all of his life. He also loved his remote control (all men do). But most of all he loved those who loved him when he didn't. Pretty cool life for a pretty cool guy. Love Ya.
