Doris Borens - March 13, 2001
Doris P. Borens, 82, of 132 Short St., Minonk, died at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday (March 13, 2001) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, El Paso.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Minonk, the Rev. Craig Swenson officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Pekin. Visitation will be for one hour before the service at the church. Folkers-Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or to Lupus Foundation of Central Illinois, 230 Court St., Pekin, IL 61554. Mrs. Borens was born Sept. 12, 1918, in Benson, a daughter of John J. and Fenna Gerdes Johnson. She married Leo G. "Tom" Marshall in April 1939 in Flanagan. He died in April 1947. She married Raymond J. Borens in December 1949. He survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Connie (Don) Gill, Edwardsville; and one sister, Lillian (Clarence) Kettwich, Minonk; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The grandchildren are Gregg Gill, Chicago; Gwenn (Pete) Young, Denver, Colo.; and Jarrod Gill of Telluride, Colo. One daughter, Jarilyn Marshall, and five brothers also preceded her in death. Mrs. Borens received her primary education in Flanagan and furthered her education at Bradley University for a short while, completing at Brown's Business College in Peoria. She was employed at Fabry Auto Supply, Pekin; worked as a bookkeeper at Ray's Motor Sales, Minonk, for 15 years; and later at Chillicothe Cartage, Chillicothe. She ended her business career by working as a bookkeeper for Marge Decker, a lifelong friend at the Elegant Bride Shop in Minonk for eight years, retiring in 1984 at the age of 65. Mrs. Borens was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Minonk and WLCA at the church. She belonged to Peoria Christian Women's Club and was past president of Junior Women's Club in Minonk. She was a former member of VFW Auxiliary Post 7185. |
