Johnathan G. "John" Schertz 59 of El Paso, passed away at 5am on Friday, May 3, 2024 at his home in rural El Paso.

John was born September 26th, 1964 in Bloomington, Illinois son of Glenn and Norma Crusius Schertz.

John met Suzanne (Longman) Schertz in 1989 and they were married May 15, 1993 in Minonk, Illinois. She survives along with their children, Johnathan (Nathan) Earl, El Paso, Jaycie Nicole (Karson) Kimpling, Lostant, and Jacqueline Rose, El Paso. John is also survived by his mother, Norma Schertz, El Paso, and sister, Amy (John) Engelmeyer, Canton, MO.

John was preceded in death by his father, Glenn; his brother, Matthew; and daughter, Sadie Jetton Schertz.

John worked as a mechanic for Sauder and Rippel Inc. Minonk after attending Illinois Central College and then was self-employed as a farmer. John loved to farm, raise cattle, be a caretaker of the land, help others and serve the Lord.

John was a member of the Woodford County Farm Bureau, Woodford County Beef Improvement Association, a director on the Grainland Elevator Board for over 20 years, a member of the St. Paul's UCC Church Council, a member of the Panola Township Board, a 4-H leader, a running member of the El Paso (Bloomington-Peoria) St. Jude team and a fourth-generation member of the El Paso Farmers Club.

John was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Minonk where his funeral will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11am. Pastor Jay Hurd will officiate.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9th from 4-7pm at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso and from 10-11am prior to the funeral service at church.
