Mabel Susan Salmon (Gardner), 83, of San Jose, CA left us peacefully after battling cancer on Mother's Day. Sue will be remembered for the kindness she offered on our toughest days. At the end of many of our loved ones' lives, she was there for us in obvious ways for over 50 years as the owner of Chapel of Flowers Funeral Home. She gave her time, her energy and her heart to make peaceful the journey of our loved ones to whatever lies beyond our world. As dedicated as she was to that work, she was also a fierce advocate for children, people and animals in need. She refused to allow those around her to be overcome by their struggles—offering a helping hand and another chance. She was the personification of the phrase "where there is a will, there is a way." She was a mother to her sons and daughter and a mother figure to many that crossed her path. She was always there with sound advice, a gentle smile, or just the right witticism to give you a fresh perspective. Like the peanut brittle she made every holiday, Sue Salmon, was a tough defender of her community on the outside but one of the sweetest people you will find under the surface. She spent a lifetime dedicated to different charities and was recognized in 1969 as Woman of The Year. Throughout the years received many awards for her charitable work in Santa Clara County.
Sue was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Ralph O. Salmon, Jr; her sister, Margaret Robertson; her parents, Murl and Helen Gardner. She is survived by adored children Ralph O. Salmon, III, Murl Gardner Salmon and Susan Elizabeth Salmon; sister, Helen Salmon (Kevin); brother in law, Richard Robertson; Stephen Salmon; nieces and nephews Gardner K. Salmon (Annette), Helen (Tootie) Middione (Paul), Mark Robertson, Amanda Robertson, Amy Robertson, Stephanie Salmon, Alexandra Salmon, Tanner Salmon, Maggie Middione, Mia Middione and Michael Middione.
A funeral will be held at 10 am on May 24, 2021 at the Chapel of Flowers, 900 S 2nd St, San Jose, CA.
