Betty R. "Ruth" Roley, age 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 29, 2024, after a brief illness.

Ruth was born on December 17, 1933, at the family farm in rural Minonk. She graduated from high school in Minonk and married Wayne Roley on June 29, 1952, also in Minonk.

Ruth is survived by three children: Debbie (Joe) Sullivan of Forsyth, Lori Roley-Moews of Bloomington, and Jeff (Shelley) Roley of Champaign; seven grandchildren: Tonya (Tom) Clausing of Dallas, Luke (Jill) Sullivan of Monticello, Drew (Meg) Sullivan of Elmhurst, Reed (Leslie) Sullivan of Forsyth, Beau (Sara) Sullivan of Arlington Heights, Alexandria (Alle) Roley of Champaign, and Baley Roley of Chicago. Ruth's great-grandchildren include Luke's children: Shay and Sander; Drew's children: Chase and Cloe; Reed's children: Lea, Kate and Will; and Beau's children: Jack, Lucy and Stella. Ruth had a special place in her heart and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne; beloved sister, Edmona Lohr; brother, Cliff Ioerger; one infant grandson, Scott Moews; and her very dear and longtime friend, Joan Miller.

Ruth and Wayne were longtime members of The Elk's Club and Lakeside Country Club. The two were avid Illini fans and had basketball and football season tickets since the 1970s. As generous supporters of the U of I, Ruth and Wayne were members of the University's Presidents Council.

Ruth was a longtime member of Centennial Christian Church and was the embodiment of commitment and dedication when it came to her family. She worked a split-shift daily for 20 years at Streid's Motel and Restaurant as a waitress until it burned down in 1980. She was affectionately known as "Ruthie" by Mr. Streid and her many regular customers, some of whom were local, some travelling "Old Route 66." Ruth was known as a very patient woman whose spirit and faith helped her persevere and remain steadfast over the years in difficult situations.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 29, 2024, which is the date of Ruth and Wayne's anniversary. It will take place at Centennial Christian Church in Bloomington at 10:30 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which Ruth supported regularly over many years.
