Chief Butler withdraws request for retirement

Monday, January 17, 2005 Posted 8:35 p.m.
The Minonk City council learned at Monday night's meeting that Minonk Chief of Police Bill Butler withdrew his request for early retirement. At the previous council meeting Butler requested the city to do a buyout from the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund that would allow him to retire with a full pension based on 30 years of service. He has 28 and 1/2 years of service. Instead, Butler has decided to work until at least July, 2006 for the City of Minonk at which time he will be eligible for retirement through the IMRF with no cost to him or the city.

The main consideration for the city was the feeling that a suitable replacement for Chief Butler would not able to be hired by March 1, 2005, his requested retirement date.

Woodford County 911 calls

The city sent a letter to the Woodford County 911 Board requesting a meeting to discuss the issue of using only one tone to alert emergency workers of a call. The reason for the concern is that at nightime hours, an ambulance squad member may be asleep and fail to hear just one tone. The city is requesting the 911 personnel to give 2 tones as was done in the past. The city stated that this policy change could make the difference between life and death.

Bids to demolish old lumber building

All proposals must be received before February 3rd, 2005. A summary of submitted proposals will be presented to the council at the next meeting on February 7th, 2005.

New Millenia Park ice rink flooded for skating

City Administrator Trent Smith said that city personnel has flooded the hockey rink in the New Millenia Park at the north edge of town for ice skating. The cold weather has allowed ice to be created very easily and everyone is invited to bring their ice skates and skate on the new ice.
