Lighting of Minonk Christmas Tree Set for Nov. 26th

Saturday, November 04, 2017 - Posted 10:30:11 AM
The second annual Lighting of the Minonk Christmas Tree will take place on Sunday, November 26th, at 6:30 pm at the northwest corner of Fifth and Chestnut streets. The lighting of the Christmas tree is Minonk's traditional start of the holiday season.

The tree was designed and built by former Minonk resident Ed Shirley and installed for the first time last year. The purchase of the tree was funded in part by local donations.

The lighting ceremony will feature songs by the Village-Aires prior to the lighting of the tree.

In addition to the lighting ceremony, the city will be installing 7 wireless speakers along Chestnut street between 4th and 6th streets which will be used for playing holiday music. This will bring back memories to the older generation who remember when Minonk played music downtown during the holiday season in the 1950s. The speakers will be permanent and will be used for other events throughout the year.
