Fieldcrest Board Receives Audit Report, Approves Budget

Wednesday, September 26, 2018 - Posted 8:31:42 PM

The Fieldcrest Board of Education was given a presentation on the school's audit report for 2018.  While the audit was generally favorable, the auditor noted that Fieldcrest ranked 264 out of 386 school districts in the cost of educating a student with 1 being the lowest and 386 being the highest cost.  For comparison of other schools in the area, Roanoke-Benson ranked 286 and Lowpoint-Washburn ranked 281.  The auditor noted that the fairly high cost per student is due to the large area covered by the school district which entails higher transportation and maintenance cost.

Fieldcrest Superintendent Dr. Dan Oakley gave a presentation on the school's proposed budget.  The budget estimated education fund revenue was $9,840,000 while expenses are estimated to be $9,890,000.  80% of the budget is in the education fund.  The board approved the budget after viewing the presentation.  For a detailed report of the budget, click here.

The board approved the early graduation for several Fieldcrest High School students.  Board member Charles Lohr said much credit should be given to the teachers who helped these students in preparing them for college.

Fieldcrest Intermediate Principal Jacob Wall brought the board up to date on activities at the school.  Mr. Wall said snack packs were distributed to 60 students out of 90 who qualified for the program.  30 of the students decided not to participate.  He also mentioned that the school is shooting for a 95% attendance rate.  Finally, the public is invited to an open house at the school on Thursday, Sept. 27 between 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm
