Minonk commemorates Memorial Day

A Memorial Day Commemoration was held at the Fieldcrest Gymnasium in Minonk on Monday. The ceremony opened with Master of Ceremonies Melvin Matter leading the audience with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a singing of The National Anthem accompanied by Mary Miles at the piano. This was followed by the Invocation by Kirsten Waters.

Speeches were read by Fieldcrest students Emma Fortner, Claire Weers and Olivia Crank. This was followed by a bagpipe selection played by Elaine Cunningham. A vocal group of Fieldcrest High School students sang a selection of songs.

American Legion Commander Larry Miles then read out 60 and 70 year members of the American Legion. In attendance were 70 year members Ralph Rossman and Norbert Petri.

The Cemetery Roll Call was read by James Jacek and David Shirley. This was followed by the Color Guard firing a 21 gun salute and the playing of the Taps.

The ceremony finished with a singing of "God Bless America".



Elaine Cunningham played the bagpipes.




Fieldcrest students sang at the ceremony.



70 year American Legion members Norbert "Nubs" Petri on the left and Ralph Rossman were honored at the ceremony.



Flags were placed by volunteers at the local cemeteries.  These flags are at the north end of St. Patrick's Cemetery.
