Monday, May 28, 2018 - Posted 11:30:47 AM
Memorial Day services were held at the Fieldcrest High School gymnasium in Minonk on Monday in warm conditions due to the 90 degree heat enveloping the area. The services began with a welcome from moderator Melvin Matter who has been leading the services for many years and along with James Jacek and William Shirley are to be commended for their annual service on Memorial Day.

The service began with the entrance of the Color Guard followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of the national anthem with Mary Miles at the piano. Mr. Jacek then led the crowd in prayer.

Speeches were given by Fieldcrest students Emma Lorton, Addison Goodrich, Garret Piasse, and Sydney White. The speeches were followed by a song from Fieldcrest high school students and the playing of the bagpipes by Elaine Cunningham.

The cemetery roll call was then read by Mr. Jacek and Mr. Shirley.

The service was concluded with the Color Guard firing squad, playing of the taps by Braden Cunningham and the crowd joining in the singing of "God Bless America".
