Cunningham Candies has announced they will be moving to a new location in downtown Minonk this summer. Co-owner Kristie Ruestman said they have been looking for a long time to expand and decided to buy the former Just Stuff Antique building at the southwest corner of Oak and 6th Street which has an address of 551 N. Chestnut Street. The building was formerly occupied by Toluca Tailoring, Just Stuff Antiques and Brackney Drugs. The building was originally used as a lumber storage building by Kent Lumber but was remodeled 30 years ago to accommodate the businesses mentioned above.
Ruestman said they will be spending the summer remodeling the building. Plans are to have a glass wall that separates the retail operation at the front of the building from the candy making operation so people can see them making candy. In addition to greatly expanding the operations area and the retail area, there will be a big shipping dock at the rear.
Ruestman said she and her co-workers are very excited about the move as it will enable them to expand their operations and yet stay in downtown Minonk. She said someone has already committed to buying their current building at 550 N. Chestnut and will be bringing in a new business into downtown Minonk.
Plans are for an open house of the new facility at the end of August. Below is a photo looking to the north of the building purchased by Cunningham Candies.
