Woodford County Sales Tax Passes

Woodford County voters approved a 1% sales tax by a 57% to 43% majority. Over $1.8 million revenue is expected from the tax and will be split among nine public school districts in the county. A similar tax proposal was defeated in 2013. The increase will give Woodford County an 8.5% sales tax.

Locally, John Krug with 1,172 votes and Justin Faulk with 1,283 votes won the Republican nomination for two seats in Woodford County Board District One. Board member Duane Kingdon received 1,031 votes and came in third.  There were no Democrat candidates running.

Governor Bruce Rauner won over State Rep. Jeanne Ives by a 52% to 48% margin which is much less than expected while J. B. Pritzker easily won the Democratic nomination for Governor with 45% of the votes against several other contenders.

In the 18th District, incumbent Rep. Darin LaHood beat Donald Rients by a  71% to 29% margin in the Republican primary.
