Fieldcrest Board Meeting Summary

The Fieldcrest CUSD 6 Board of Education held its regular Board meeting on February 22, 2017. Members present were Tom Barth, Tammi Coons, Scott Hillenburg, Joe Kirkpatrick, Greg Kroeschen, Tim McNamara, and Danielle Reichman. Also present were Superintendent Dr. Daniel L. Oakley, South principal Jason Chaplin and a few community members. 

The Board met in closed session to start the meeting to discuss personnel employment and compensation. 

In Board action during regular session, the Board: approved the consent agenda; approved the superintendent's annual evaluation; approved a three-year retirement contract for Dr. Oakley; adopted a resolution for the sale of $1,200,000 Working Cash bonds; adopted a Board Policy update package; adopted a Board resolution regarding reimbursable expenses; approved Chris Perry's mowing bid; and approved the first of needed two bulk computer purchases for the 17-18 school year. 

In employment action, the Board: hired Megan Jansen, Heather Torgler, and Nicole Underwood as teachers for the 17-18 school year; hired Donnie Shelby as a driver for the 17-18 school year; recalled Jennifer Gaspardo as a part-time custodian; hired Ken Baker as middle school assistant track coach; and thanked Laura Bischler for her service to the district this school year. 

Mr. Lapp addressed the Board regarding activities at the high school. Among other items, Mr. Lapp noted discussions and possible connections with Western Illinois University for college dual credit. 

Dr. Oakley informed the Board of activities at the recent Alliance Summit and meetings he and Mrs. Allen had with legislators in Springfield. The focus of the meetings with legislators included fixing the state's broken budget system and providing adequate funding for the poorer districts of the state.

Dr. Oakley also updated the Board on probable position reductions in force at the March Board meeting, updates to the tentative FY18 school year calendar, current lawsuits filed against the state of Illinois for funding inadequacies, and data requested regarding a police services agreement.

Mr. Kroeschen thanked Julie May for her expertise and professionalism. 

The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 22 2017, at 6:30 pm at Fieldcrest High School band room, with closed session starting at 6:00 pm
