Snowmobiles

I see that other off road vehicles are being added to the listed to be used on the streets. Are snowmobiles authorized? We lack seat belts, but are insured and licensed.

Who mows nature trail?

I was wondering if anyone knows who is in charge of mowing the nature trail? The grass and weeds are getting pretty tall, especially around the pond, over the hill and around the old landfill. Having it mowed would make it nice to walk along those areas again.

Thanks

Minonk Reunion 2013

Greetings all.

We are planning a Minonk (MDHS or MDR) reunion this spring. We will meet at the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas on Tuesday, April 2 and spend three nights there. Then we will head to Scottsdale where we tentatively plan to stay at the Comfort in in Old Town Scottsdale for three more nights. We chose the order of the stay based on room rates. The Monte Carlo charges $60 per night for the dates we have chosen. The week-end rate jumps to $150. The Comfort Inn rates range from $88 to $108.

Rooms can be reserved on-line or by phone (Monte Carlo 702-730-7777) (Comfort Inn 480-946-1111)

Let me know if you are interested. Definitely let me know if you will be coming -- and tell your friends and classmates that you think would be interested. My email is JLOwensCPA5@msn.com.

Tales From The Trees Book on Minonk

I recently came across book my mother gave me years ago "Tales From The Trees" it is a biographical / history book about Minonk. The book was written by Hayes Schneider (first edition) with the copy write pending. There are some wonderful pictures in this book and the entire has some fascinating information on Minonk, Ill., some of the advertisements printed in this book will really take you back in time. The book is in excellent condition with a few footnotes written in the book but none that take away from the condition.
Anyone interested I purchasing this book please email me at barbnov55@msn.com.

Cell phone use in school zones

The Fieldcrest High School FOCUSED group would like to remind all parents and healthcare providers, that cell phone use in all school zones is prohibited!! This is not only illegal, but also sets a bad example for your kids and puts our students at risk!!!

Water Hydrant Flushing

The City of Minonk public works department will be flushing fire hydrants the week of October 5, 2012. The water may be temporarily discolored, but will be safe for consumption. However, discoloration of clothing during laundry may occur. If your water looks discolored let it run for a few minutes to flush. Thanks

Garage Sales

We have been to townwide sales all over this area, and this is the first time I was in a town that did not provide washroom facilities for garage sale days. Every other town has porta-potties or other facilities available. We were in town with our grandson and the washrooms at Caseys, Dollar General, and the Food store that was selling food out front all had their washrooms locked for the day. Shame on you.

We had to leave sales due to this and drove by the lovely park that also had its washrooms locked.

We will NOT return to Minonk for townwide sales unless you list washroom facility locations on your sheet listing sales that was beautifully provided by computer. Surely you realize if you invite people to town for the day, you have to provide some sort of comfort station.

Young's garage

I agree with Dave on the issue of the old Young's garage property. It is an eye sore and many times there's glass on the sidewalks from broken windows. Many children walk on this sidewalk to school and I've always thought it was dangerous. We're tearing down other unsightly properties and yet this is one of the worst of them and is seen by so many people.

Good Call Dave!
