Fieldcrest advanced to the second round of the State 2A Playoffs with a 20-8 decision over West Carroll Friday night in Minonk.

The game started on an ominous note when West Carroll scored on a 60 yard touchdown pass on the very first play of the game. They converted a 2-pointer to take the lead 8-0 with 47 minutes left in the game.

Fieldcrest didn't score until late in the 1st quarter with a run for a touchdown but were unable to make the 2-point conversion which left the score 8-6 at halftime.

Both teams were scoreless in the 3rd quarter but in the 4th quarter Fieldcrest scored on a pass play and made the 2 point conversion to go ahead 14-8. The Knights then ran for another touchdown with 7 minutes to go to clinch the victory. West Carroll tried to come back but the Knights intercepted a West Carroll pass and then ate the ball until the game ended.

The heavy rains made the turf very muddy and slippery which thwarted the running game for both teams. West Carroll relied mostly on their passing game but were intercepted 4 times by the Knights.

Except for the first play of the game, the Knights played excellent defense the rest of the game. The Knights are now 10-0 and will play the winner of the Chicago Orr/Elgin St. Edwards game at Minonk next week.
