Free gently used toys

My 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter have just finished doing their annual clean out of toys to make room for their new ones that will come in this Christmas season and therefore we have a lot of toys with no place to go! I will set out the bags of used toys on Friday morning if anyone would like to come and get these. I ask that you take a bag or all of the bags for
that matter and choose what you want then donate the rest or give them to someone you think might like them.

These are all good working toys. We have thrown anything little or broken away and my little boy is very excited to give them to someone who may need them. We live on the corner of Locust and First and the bags will be located by our driveway which is on First Street. Thank you and have a blessed holiday season.

Christmas House Walk

Everyone:

The 4th of July Committee is sponsoring a Christmas House Walk, December 15 from 1 to 5 p.m. This is a chance to see how people decorate their homes for the Christmas season and to see some of the unique features that make up some of the homes here in Minonk. The entire write up is on this website's home page and we hope that you will be a part of our event.

The Committee needs your help - we are having refreshments as a part of this event and hope that if anyone would like to make Christmas cookies/desserts to donate please contact us for more information. We also need plastic bags for shoes. Each person that tours the homes will be asked to remove their shoes and plastic bags will be available to put the shoes into. If you wish to assist us with either of these please feel free to contact either Cathy McKay 432-2605 or Sue Park at 432-3269.

Thanks so much.
Cathy McKay

Good Editorial for Veterans Day!

Thank you for your editorial. It's been a few years since I've responded to any of your editorials, but felt like I should on this one. Since we last communicated, I have transferred to Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs.

You are right in honoring our veterans and I feel that the country is behind our service members in our current day and age. I just ask people to ask themselves if it is proper to be so outspoken…to the point of being disrespectful…against our politicians in office, whether they be Republican or Democrat? "United we Stand…Divided we Fall"…I feel that our adversaries are using our outspoken "Division" against us right now…which is hurting and even killing our service members in harms way. Freedom of Speech is great…but are we sending the wrong message to the rest of the world by practicing it the way we are now in this country?

God Bless…

MSgt Joe Uphoff, USAF

Thanks for opportunity to serve community

Dear Citizens of Minonk,

I would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve this community for the last 8 years. Due to circumstances out of my control that have occurred within a little over a years time, I feel it is in my best interest to find different avenues to serve my community through.

I would like to thank all of you for the kind comments and thank you's given both on Minonk Talk e-mail and in person. I have loved being able to serve you all, and I will look forward to seeing you all around town.

Please know that my decision to resign from the Ambulance Squad, effective November 16, 2007, has not been an easy one.

Again, I would like to thank everyone for this opportunity to serve you and possibly in the future, under the right circumstances, you all will see me serving on the Ambulance Squad again.

Sincerely yours,
Kimmel Jenkins

In Memoriam: RJ Kline

The following article was taken from the John Lothian Newsletter

RJ Kline, a longtime employee of Trading Technologies in Chicago, passed away this week after heroically battling a lingering illness.

One of RJ's most unique qualities was his absolute refusal to accept defeat in any aspect of his life. Both before and even during his sickness, RJ was often the first to arrive and the last to leave the office (even working on weekends). RJ's work ethic wasn't overstated or forced. He would simply put his head down and humbly go about his job.

In his 6+ years of employment at Trading Technologies, RJ worked in a humble and dedicated fashion on a number of strategic initiatives. He developed the first version of Autotrader™, which has become an important part of TT's X_TRADER® offering. He then assumed the role of Product Manager for X_RISK®, TT's risk monitoring application. RJ also worked with a number of futures exchanges as TT expanded its market connectivity and with many customers on the implementation of TT software.

RJ will be sorely missed by the TT family and by those in the industry who knew him. He was passionate about the things the mattered to him, including TT, his hobby of farming, and especially his family. Condolences go to his them at this painfully difficult time, particularly his wife and young son.

RJ's funeral will be at 11am Saturday at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Minonk, IL. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rutland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fieldcrest High School science and horticulture department in care of Fieldcrest High School, 1 Dornbush Drive, Minonk, IL 61760; or to OSF Hospice, 608 N. Ladd, Pontiac, IL 61784. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.ruestmanharrisfuneralhome.com.

Park restrooms closing this week

Hi Dave,

Please let your readers know the Public Works Dept. will be closing and winterizing the restrooms at the Westside Park and Veterans Park this week. We will also turn off the water service and winterize the Public drinking fountains.
I would like to say "Thank You" to everyone who helps keep the parks and our town clean.

Hats off to the members of the Fieldcrest cast

Dave,
I just wanted to take a moment to say what a wonderful presentation the fall play at Fieldcrest High School was. I know how many people went in to making this work, so a big thank you to all. This was one of the very best high school plays I have ever attended. The cast should be very proud of themselves. It was the best Sunday afternoon I have spent in a long time. Wonderful job everyone. I'm looking forward to future productions!

Sincerly,
Kimmel Jenkins
