Global Warning

First is there global warming yes, second is it created by man nobody knows for sure. For sure the earth has warmed and cooled 6 times severe enough to change everything. Iceland is named Iceland because when it was discovered it was covered by ice now it's green. Greenland is named Greenland why?, you know, it was green when discovered now it's covered by ice. One volcano eruption releases more Co2 and greenhouse gases than all car ever produce combined ever releases. United State has reduced their releasing of green house gases by over 50% since the 90's. So, before people start preaching and demanding change, I sure hope these people investigate their own closets first. I would hope they have signed up from their power provider only to buy green power (yes this is an option it will cost you double but it's an option) I would hope they don't have one item in their possession produce by china, since china is the world most polluter. China puts on line avg 1 new coal burning plant a month with no Co2 collections, they still burn tires for energy. I sure hope they have solar panels and their homes are highest energy efficient as possible. Because no they are hypocrites and don't want to truly have change, they just want someone else to do the change. Any baby boomer that has not made green energy life style change that is preaching to us is also a hypocrite since they lived their life with cheap energy, they created the throw away life style that everyone is accustom to. I am also tired of the Politicians preaching to us about global warming, then after their little speech getting on their private jet and fly to their next location. Al Gore house uses as much energy in one month as the avg house in united states uses in a year. If you want to make changes, make changes by example not by talking

Jack Smilth

Michael Cave: Even if it isn't man made, thatDoesnt mean environmental efforts have to be curbed just to make a buck. There is an old Indian proverb. Only when the last tree felled, the last fish poisoned, and the last river dry, will man know he cannot eat money.
Amanda Greenland: Um... no. That's absolutely not how Greenland got it's name. Click here.
LaDena Wagner Livingston: I believe every thing you have said. My thoughts exactly !!!!
Jerald L Jaquet: The Earths orbit around the sun has more to do with global warming than anything we can do and the orbit is changing check NASA's web page

Greta

Greta Thunberg, previously mentioned in the global warming debate, is not so well liked everywhere.

https://globalnews.ca/news/6057954/greta-thunberg-mural-defaced-edmonton

And it gets uglier...

https://summit.news/2019/07/03/germans-display-fck-you-greta-bumper-stickers-to-protest-being-lectured-about-global-warming

There probably is / will be more. Welcome to the world, Greta.

Argument aside, it would be prudent to err on the side of caution, and to assume that we are contributing to warming, and to try to implement Dave's ideas. The problem is, around 3/4 of the people in this state live in a 6-county area in and around Cook. When a majority of those voters become concerned, changes might be made.

In the meantime, our household uses energy sparingly out of simple frugality.

James Flynn

Dee Petri: People hate to change their habits, especially if it means *any* reduction in convenience, if even temporary. Also people often have a hard time seeing anything change. And they sure as heck hate being told what to do by an angry little girl who cries over stupid crap like ecosystem collapses, mass extinctions, intentional destruction of ecosystems, etc. This mural defacement indicates vividly that *nobody* cares, little girl. Shut up and do your algebra homework.
Linda Thacker: Who cares? Not everyone wants to be told they are hurting our planet and leaving chaos for their grandchildren. Some people are self centered and don't like criticism.
Richard Robertson: Too bad, guess she won't be manipulating the world like she manipulated her parents. It doesnt work that way ! Vee Filipiak: Please tell me you're being sarcastic. Please.

(More) Global Warming

To contribute to the global warming debate, I wish to offer the following:

Dr. Ottmar Endenhofer of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change presents a 12-minute video showing how statistics and records are being skewed to make global warming appear worse than it is. This is fact--not opinion. It's politics and our complicit news media at work.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8455KEDitpU

Secondly, read the NASA.GOV article (three consecutive pages) showing how the earth's orbit in relation to the sun causes climate change.

https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/features/Milankovitch/milankovitch.php

Here is the summary:

"...orbital variations remain the most thoroughly examined mechanism of climatic change
on time scales of tens of thousands of years and are by far the clearest case of a direct effect of changing insolation on the lower atmosphere of Earth" (National Research Council, 1982).

This has been occurring long before mankind arrived here, and will continue, in my opinion, with or without us.

James Flynn

MinonkTalk:Here is a link to the claims made by Tony Heller

Global Warning Editorial

Dave, thank you for making a concerted effort to educate folks who may be content to ignore the acute ramifications of ignoring global warming. If we don't get serious about implementing remedies, we will begin to suffer the consequences within the next 25 years. This earth is our legacy to our grandchildren! Kudos to young Greta for taking up the mantle when older generations turn their backs on an issue that affects every living thing on this planet.

Martha Jones Ashton

Kristin Marie Dennis: Both sides of the political rhetoric spread falsehoods about climate change. The right claims abandoning fossil fuels will destroy the economy, climate change is fake. The left claims we have X amount of years left before the world as we know is is destroyed. Don't depend on politicians to sprout out anything other than what is attractive to their constituents. We do know that storms are increasingly more severe and cost billions to clean up due to the planet warming up - reactionary measures rather than precautionary. Fossil fuels as the be all to end all source of cheap energy is ceasing to be and has done its job to bring so many people to live comfortably. But the storms - who pays when insurance companies start to go bust? Us. I hope it doesn't take a severe devastating tragedy for people to wake up and do their bit. Conserving and recycling and picking junk off the ground to throw away properly doesn't take too much effort.
Michael Cave: Its not about apocalyptic devestation but an effort to have a little forethought for what we are leaving our children and their children. If we (collectively) have a little more concern for the world we live in, what is the damage? Anyone remember the 60's and 70' pollution that created so much smog you couldn't see ten feet in front of you? We live in a rural are mostly unaffected by industrial pollution. But its coming. Hows the drinking water with 30,000 hogs in the area... or the air for that matter.
Jerry Dronenberg: I was told in grade school we only had 30 years left. That was 40 years ago. The fact is man made global warming is a hoax. It was created by Democrats that wanted to impose a carbon tax that would give them more money and power. Dave Messer: That's true. I heard it at one of my secret deep state meetings. smh
Levi Schmillen: You also received an explanation of how the greenhouse effect works. If you remain dubious after reading the scientific literature that elucidates how gases that compose our atmosphere impact what lies below them, this effect can be simply emulated using a sealed jar and compressed carbon dioxide, a gas that is emitted from various man-made objects upon combustion. Moreover, the volume of carbon dioxide emitted into our lower atmosphere is aggrandized by natural disasters, e.g. the recent wild fire in the Amazon. Democrat or republican, the science behind such an effect is quite difficult to repudiate. Even this has been recognized by some of our most prolific right-wing activists such as Ben Shapiro. The only reason this conversation is mentioned within political discussion is because it threatens to impact multi-billion dollar corporations. The heat trapping effect caused by carbon dioxide is not meant to be presented in the form of a fear factor indicating our ultimate end, but as a message to preserve our ecosystem. Taking an extra step to do this is not a gratuitous request.
Mark Ferguson: Biden pushes global warming but yet his campaign spent $900.000 for private jets rides. Guess if I owned Delta I wouldn't let Democrats ride either not even in luggage!!!
Dave Messer: Richard Robertson Could have swore you said you believed in global warming.
Richard Robertson: Dave Messer I do, it's a natural cycle , Mother Earth's Climate Cycle is on an cycle now it's warming slightly, probably be in another Ice Age in 15,000 years.
Dave Messer: Richard Robertson Oh I see. I'm different. I believe emissions are an influence. Unfortunately, neither of us can prove which is right.
Brian Tull: Actually data supports Rick's theory..
Dave Messer: Brian Tull I heard data supports me. But that's the thing about data. It can be looked at so many ways as to "the data shows". I just know we are putting out emmissions and I don't see a reason why it's impossible that they would contribute. And I'm not willing to wait until we have unquestionable data to show it is an issue. Might be too late if all we do is keep saying "it might be cyclical".
John Bunn: Natural heating and cooling of the earth was well understood by the modern era, and one of the very first things climate researchers considered was "how do we remove this effect, to let us see other patterns in the data?" We've already accounted for the earth's wobble, distance from the sun, solar activity cycles, volcanoes, and the like. We've already done that. What remains is a strong signal, a positive correlation between temperature and CO2 with the latter being a leading indicator. So, no. The data does NOT support Rick's theory.

City Postponing Hydrant Flushing

The city of Minonk is postponing flushing the hydrants until done with the improvements at the Water Treatment plant.

City Admin Bill Moline

Krista Cunliffe: How much longer for the improvements to be done? Would really like to be able to drink water again without having to go to the store for it.
Traci Stevens: Krista Cunliffe I agree. I always drink bottled water but my kids don't, my oldest only Likes tap water so, it will be nice when this is done
Krista Cunliffe: Traci Stevens i constantly drink water and I've been fine dining our tap water until it became salty and gross. I'm tired of having to buy water when we're already paying forwater
Tammy Ann: How about fixing the sewer problems so it doesn't back up into people's basement!?!?!
Krista Ruestman: Tammy Ann I agree. This has gone on long enough, and the city needs to fix the problem
Kristie Miller: I went to pops today and the ice and drink taste funny now I'm seeing why people have been complaining about water..
Tom Gentry: Is anyone else getting air in their water lines everyday since all these repairs began?
Keri Sammans Carls: Tom Gentry yes!

Bennington Township Wind Turbines

The first special use permit meeting will be held October 17 in Lacon. Locals here are organizing to complain at this meeting, and to urge refusal of this permit.

There is a place for these turbines, perhaps, but not where they can degrade quality of life to such an extent. I need only to look at those in Livingston Co., that ruin a summer evening sitting outdoors. Would I buy my property again, if it is surrounded by these machines? Never. Will I get a break in property taxes for this reduction in value? Of course not.

In addition, they require financial incentives of $40,000 to $70,000 each to even become a net electricity producer, according to National Geographic.

Let's not give so much for so little. We can never get it back.

James Flynn

Lynn Tweedt-Rabinowe: You are so smart to resist this silliness. These turbines are a waste of resources, land, and raw materials.
Janis Megow: Very well stated Lynn Tweedt-Rabinowe! It is concerning how the majority of the residents do not want the "windmills" but have very little control over the situation.
Broc Hovey: Can't wait to hear the whooping of the blades that sound like a jet plane and seeing all the stupid red lights blink.....
Todd Greskoviak: Couldn't agree more

Thanks from family of Marjorie Cullen for cards

The family of Marjorie Cullen wish to express our sincere gratitude to those who remembered our Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma on her 100th birthday with cards, flowers and thoughts and prayers. THANK ALL of you.

Food Pantry can use empty containers

I would like to remind everyone that the Food Pantry can use your empty, clean laundry detergent and fabric softener containers. Please bring to City Hall and place them on the table on the north side of the meeting room. Midwest Distribution says they will need empty containers at least through the end of the year.

Lila McCulley

New Pump

Why would they tie up the skid steer when they need a pump for the lift station. Next thing they will do is come and say we need to purchase another skid steer to have available when we need to run the secondary pump. Also if the lift station is not large enough to hand storms why are they not looking to upgrade it instead of purchasing secondary pumps every so many years.

"Operation Kindness Matters" started

Family and friends. I have wanted to do something for our veterans for several years now. And time has always gotten away from me. So this year, I'm not going to let time slip away again.

The name of this project is a "Operation Kindness Matters". For those of you who follow me on Facebook. You know that "Kindness Matters" is my mantra. So this name just made sense.

So here's the deal I'm going to be putting together a hundred gift bags for the veterans at the Manteno VA. It is an assisted living facility for vets. There are 297 veterans at this facility . Michele Shear (the lady I'm dealing with at the home) and I decided to start this year with a hundred. And hopefully next year will be able to add them all. I will be collecting items for the bags. I have a list compiled that Michelle and I came up with. You can either donate items or monetary donations. Once we have everything collected. I will purchase the remaining items not donated. You can reach me through my cell phone at 501-650-4147 or 309-432-2164 or email at mairc63@gmail.com or Facebook.

Click here for a list of items.
