Way To Go...

Clearing our streets early Friday morning. First I was nervous to hear the plow truck go by several times. Wondering how much did we get and will the kids have school? It was plenty. Although not enough according to my son who is 8. He'd live in it if we let him. He'll just have to wait (and wait and wait till next winter) Come on spring!

Rubbing it in

I was born lived in Minonk for years and know the Midwestern winter. Here is a photo of pristine sabino canyon near tucson, arizona and no snow. Come for a visit.

Sincerely,

Christopher Hattan, Ph.D., M.S.

Hello Bill Herman Jr.

Hi Bill, Bet you never thought to hear from me again. I wanted you to know that I still have the Silver taurus I bought from you way back. My grandson calls it old silver. It has been the best car. My mechanic here told me even though it has a tad over 200,000 miles on it, he has never seen such a good motor and it will last me another 200,00 miles. I have had only the usual wear and tear and keep her oil changed when its due.

Take care,

wanda patterson

Do I have your family bible?

I grew up in Minonk, and graduated from MDR High School in 1956. My grandfather Johann Onnen came to Minonk in or about 1845 with his parents Gerd Onnen and Trienje (Radamaker) Onnen from Aurich Germany. Johann married Meta Eilts, and among their 7 children was my father John Onnen, Jr., who lived his entire life in Minonk. So much for background.

My sister Sandra Roberts recently uncovered a Martin Luther bible printed in 1763, given to her by our mother Emily 10-15 years ago, which we thought might be our family bible, but I am not at all certain that is the case. It may well belong to some other German family from the Minonk area; perhaps your family or the family of someone you know.

There are 5 pages of handwritten material in the book, with dates recorded as far back as 1738, that will probably identify the family and many significant family events. The problem is that I have not been able to find someone who can translate the material. The material is all in "fractured German script", which was discontinued in the early 1940's.

If you should know of some agency or person that could do this translation, please contact me at onne2399@bellsouth.net. Many thanks.

Jim Onnen

idenifying Lehmen's picture

Hi Kathy,

You identified my picture of the Lehamn's picture.

I have tried to reach you thru email but for some reason, it didn't go thru. I would like to get in touch with you.

Please email me at tidballd@sbcglobal.net.

I have so many pictures from around Minonk so more may come their way. I have a few with names. Names my Grandparents, Gehard and Alma Folkers and my dad have talked about. Uphoff, Lehman, Timmerman, but I guess they were all neighbors.

Also love the garage sales, we have been traveling over to Minonk the last couple years.

Another picture solved. Helps so much with my genealogy. Love this website.

Thank you and the Minonk Talk, too. I appreciate it all.

Editor's Note: This email is referencing Kathy Jackson.
