Lavina M. Abels 88 Lavina M. Abels 88 of Meadows Mennonite Home in Meadows formerly of Minonk passed away at 3:30 AM Saturday December 29, 2001 at Meadows Mennonite Home. Funeral service for Mrs. Abels will be 10:00 AM Monday December 31, 2001 at Folkers Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk with the Rev. Loretta Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the Minonk TWP Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Meadows Mennonite Home or the charity of the donor’s choice. Mrs. Abels was born October 18, 1913 in Minonk the daughter of John and Alessa Devon Schmillen. She married Gerhard Abels on July 26, 1932 in New Ulm, MN. He died October 1964. Surviving is one daughter Margery (Robert) Rients of El Paso, two grandsons Eric (Kristy) Janssen and Todd (Lynette) Janssen both of Minonk, three step grandchildren Susan Rients, Robbie (Mary) Rients and Greg (Ann) Rients, three great grandchildren Zach Janssen, Tyler Janssen and Abby Janssen, three step great grandchildren Dirk Rients, Seth Rients and Sammie DeRosa. Also surviving are two sisters Leota Volinkaty of Lafayette, MN and Bernice Baumann of Minonk and a half sister Charlene Dixon of Peoria. Mrs. Abels was a member of the Minonk Presbyterian Church. Lavina was a very caring person and will be missed by all her family.
