Thomas D. Guinnee, 69 - July 13, 2010

Watseka, Ill. - Thomas D. “Tom” Guinnee, 69, of Watseka, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Provena St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee.

He was born Wednesday, April 16, 1941, in Bloomington, the son of Clarence and Madelyn Enright Guinnee.

In 1969, he married the former Lynda Steele in Havana; she survives in Watseka.

Mr. Guinnee completed his undergraduate studies at Illinois State University and continued at the University of Illinois in Champaign to complete his master’s in education. He worked for Unit 9 School District for 38 years as a high school teacher, coached football there for 15 years, and track and field for 33 years, and was SAE sponsor for 35 years. He also taught at Kankakee Community College. Mr. Guinnee was a member of NEA, Relay for Life Team Picture Chairman for the past 9 years, and Relay for Life Prizes and Incentives Chairman for 4 years. He enjoyed reading, spending time with his granddaughters, and drinking coffee with the guys at McDonald’s.

Also surviving Mr. Guinnee are two daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Henry Flores of Dubois, Penn., and Carissa and Ken Moser of Carol Stream; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Barbara Beavers of Streator, and Janet and Gary Harms of Benson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Edna Fay Steele; two granddaughters, Hannah and Lydia Moser; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Bill Guinnee; one sister, Mary Sue Guinnee; and one infant sibling.

Visitation for Mr. Guinnee will be held on Friday, July 16, 2010, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka from 4-7 pm, and also one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2010, at the funeral home at 11 am. Cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral service.

Memorials in Mr. Guinnee may be made to Trinity Church, National Kidney Foundation, or family’s wishes.
