THE PRESS

The Minonk NEWS was established in 1878 by S. C. Bruce. He died a couple of years afterward and the NEWS passed into the hands of A. R. Warren, an experienced newspaperman of New York. He conducted the paper until December 1893, when the present proprietor, A. K. Tate, assumed control as editor and proprietor. The NEWS has always been conducted on independent lines, and today enjoys the greatest prosperity. Its bona fide circulation is safely the largest of any paper in Woodford County, and its advertising columns give evidence of a liberal patronage and its popularity with Minonk merchants and businessmen.

The Minonk Blade was established in July 1873, by Irving Carrier. He conducted the Blade as an independent paper for two years, and then leased to H. O. Hedge, who made it staunchly Republican. In November 1877, J. M. Fort purchased the paper and continued its publication until the winter of 1894, when he disposed of it to his son, Arthur C. Fort and C. B. Hurtt. These young men remained in partnership until the spring of 1896, when Mr. Hurtt purchased his partner's interest and assumed full control. He soon after changed its name to Register, and it is now known by that name.
