Basketball, bells and horses in 1962

Feb. 22: The swimming pool plans have been completed and the pool will be built out at the city athletic field.

Mrs. Agnes Gallup of Minonk, the 7th district president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, attended the Fifteenth Annual Patriotic Conference in Chicago.

Sixty-nine MDR musicians will participate in the district solo and ensemble contest at Chillicothe Saturday.

March 1: MDR musicians came home with 12 superior ratings and 17 excellent ratings.

Minonk Unique Shop is observing its 8th anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Art Gangister are the owners of the women's ready to wear and gift shop.

March 8: 100 suits were stolen from Granert's- all stouts.

March 15: Minonk-Dana-Rutland school board, at its monthly meeting at the high school, Monday night approved final plans for the new Ag shop building and agreed that James Wise, building trades teacher, would be the contractor for the job.

March 22: Jack Jochums will coach basketball at MDR next season replacing George Zarcoff.

April 12: On Palm Sunday the combined choirs of the Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, and St. Paul's United Church of Christ will present the Easter cantata "My Redeemer Liveth", at St. Paul's Church.

The bells of Minonk will join those of the rest of the nation on Patriot's Day, April 19, for four minutes at 12 noon. St. Patrick's Church, St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Immanuel Lutheran Church and Minonk Baptist will participate in the bell ringing.

The Presbyterian Church has no bell to ring and the Methodist cannot ring its bell due to existing damage to the bell tower.

Harry D. Smith, Minonk fire chief, has said that the Fire Department will ring the fire bell in the tower above the City Hall building.

May 24: MDR commencement to be held next Thursday, Baccalaureate Sunday. 47 to graduate.

15 to graduate at St. Patrick School, June 3.

Plans are complete for Minonk's first annual horse show to be held at the athletic field on Sunday, June 10.

May 31: Minonk- Dana-Rutland High School's basketball team won the Midstate Championship.
