Summer in Round Rock, Texas

Submitted by Art Kettelhut - June 14, 2005

Ahhhhhhhhh, yes! Summer in Round Rock, Texas is where the devil goes to bake his bread. So the old timers here say. Not that it's hot, mind you. It's down right scorching. Just the other day, I saw a dog chasing a cat and they were both walking. Well, I've lived long enough here to know how summer's are.

Now at least in Minonk, y'all get a little break now and then. But, here, nope!

The heat is on, and I guess it's always going to be that way.

The picture here is from MinonkTalk, showing the snow storm. Wow, if we ever got one of those down here, we'd close up.

I bring this up, because I think a little heat is good for the soul. It makes you think that there are other places hotter than where you are. Like the Middle East and such. So, it gives you a sense of thankfulness that you're not in 110 degree heat. Oh, it's a "dry" heat you say? I don't know about you, but heat is heat, I don't care if it cracks the plastic glass that holding my drink, it's still HOT.

Now why didn't I feel the heat when I was growing up in Minonk? Kids don't do that for some reason. They're programmed to stay out all day in 90 plus temperatures and sweat, and sweat until, well, we couldn't stand ourselves.

All which brings me back here to Round Rock. I was sitting in the shade in my front yard awhile ago, and passers-by would wave and say "hot enough for ya?"
Well, hello! Yep, it is hot enough for me, but I casually told 'em to stand by, it's going to get hotter. I guess they thought I was some sort of a saddist.

So, the next time someone brings up this heat thing, just remember, it can always get hotter. I can't wait until the 4th, can you??
