Play advertisement on Fifth Street - 1920

Both of these photos were taken on West Fifth Street about 1/2 block east of Walnut Street. The first photo is looking to the northeast with the Third Base Tap building in the background. Notice that the Minonk News-Dispatch building was not yet built. Instead there was a retail store in its place. It is not known who the men are in these photos.

The second photo is looking due east on West Fifth Street. The building at the immediate right is now the site of the Alpha Community Bank. It appears that the men are advertising a play called "Midnight at Maxim's". The Royal Theater was located immediately to the right of the man in the white coat in the second photo. It is assumed that the play was performed at that theater.

The photos are the courtesy of George Halfmann, Jr. who received them from the estate of his father George Halfmann, Sr. who worked for the Illinois Central Railroad from 1914 to 1932 in Minonk.
