Minonk native Rick Schneider of Hernando, Miss, son of the late Ollie and Joan Schneider who currently lives in Mesa Arizona, is helping in the rebuilding of communities in Mississippi destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.   Rick is currently teaching geography classes at the DeSoto Center and his students are assisting The Buckeye Community Hope Foundation and the National YouthBuild programs by identifying communities in Mississippi in need of rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina.

Schneider and his classes have met with US Department of Labor, Housing and Urban Development and Education to use the resources of YouthBuild to help a small community in Mississippi rebuild.  170 students from inner city schools who are trained in construction work while attending school will be restoring between 200-500 damaged homes.  Rick attended MDR High School during the mid-late 60’s
