Removal of the rubble from the great Minonk Fire of Oct. 26 has started this week. Rupe Excavating of Rutland has been contracted to cleanup the debris from the fire. A large backhoe has been busy emptying the debris into trucks which take the rubbish to the Pontiac landfill. Three trucks are being utilized to haul the debris to the landfill.
Thursday morning, Ricki Leiken, who worked in the Leiken law office noticed some of the law books buried in the rubble. The backhoe operator was able to retrieve the law books and were given to Mrs. Leiken.
After the debris is removed, the hole will be filled with rock which will be packed every 2 feet to make sure it is stable and compacted. The cost of the rock will greatly add to the cost of the cleanup which, according to reports, will be quite expensive.
