State Senator Dan Rutherford (R-Pontiac) today filed petitions for the
Republican nomination for Illinois State Treasurer to be on the February 2,
2010, Primary Election ballot. He filed with the maximum number of signatures
allowed by the State Board of Elections for a state-wide candidate.
George Daglas, Rutherford Campaign Manager, said, "We have well over 20,000
signatures collected from all counties and strictly by volunteers, no paid
petition gatherers. This is testament of Dan's organization and popularity."
The first day petitions could be filed was last Monday. Hundreds of candidates
drove to Springfield to stand in line in an attempt to be first on the ballot in
their race. Rutherford did not. He is unopposed in the GOP Primary for State
Treasurer and the only candidate, from either party, unopposed in the Primary
for an open Constitutional Office.
"I didn't see spending the gas money to drive to Springfield last week when I
had to be there today on my way to Jacksonville. I am not into spending money I
do not need to. That's also the kind of State Treasurer I'm going to be,"
commented Rutherford.
A member of the Illinois Senate, Dan Rutherford serves as the ranking Republican
on the Senate Financial Institutions Committee. He is a private sector business
executive with the ServiceMaster Company, a position he held prior to being
elected to the General Assembly.
