Mike Phillips
(D-Lostant) candidate for State Representative in the 106th District, outlined
his goals for the 106th Legislative District.
First on his agenda is to
provide better service to the residents of the District. “During this campaign,
I have learned a great deal about the needs of the District by talking to the
voters. They want a strong, effective Representative who responds promptly to
their inquiries, and I plan to provide that kind of service. I will move the
office to the center of the District. Because the District is so large, I will
also hold special office hours at city and township halls throughout the
area.”
Phillips also discussed his legislative priorities. During his
campaign he has placed education at the forefront of his agenda. Phillips
teaches at Illinois Valley Community College and is President of the Lostant
School Board. “Our schools are hurting. It is clear that something needs to be
done to reform school funding and provide better support for our schools.
Maintaining high quality education, reducing reliance on property taxes, and
preserving community schools will be my top goals.”
Phillips has also
proposed putting the State budget on the internet in a format that is easy to
read and understand, providing more support for alternative and efficient energy
technologies, and clearing away the State’s budget deficit. “We need keep our
pension promises, pay our bills on time, and properly staff and maintain our
State facilities. From the prisons to the parks and on the roads in between, we
see what happens when the State cannot or will not provide proper funding for
its primary responsibilities.”
Phillips stated that he will be very
active in Springfield. “I will not sit in the back row and wait to vote on
whatever bills happen to make it to the floor. I will propose legislation that
addresses the needs of our District and the State, and I will work with other
Representatives to build support and make sure it passes.”
Phillips urged
everyone to go out and cast their vote. “The system does not work when voters
stay home. Whether you cast your vote for me or not, I urge everyone to
exercise their right to have a say in our government.”
Phillips is
seeking to represent the 106th Illinois House District, which covers portions of
LaSalle, Livingston, McLean, Tazewell, and Woodford Counties in central
Illinois. Anyone interested in finding out more can visit Phillips’s campaign
