James Vogel Recognized as Official Wind Farm Sidewalk Superintendent
Saturday, September 15, 2012 - Posted 12:10:12 PM by Steve Vogel
With construction of the Minonk Wind Farm proceeding on schedule,
Construction Manager Chris Edwards set aside part of Sept. 7 to honor
94-year-old James Vogel as the project's official sidewalk
superintendent.
Vogel, who lives with his wife Hazel on the
southwest edge of the construction area, has been closely monitoring the
construction activity from the comfort of his front lawn (not far from a
sidewalk). At first, binoculars were required, but then as several
towers mushroomed within a half mile of his home, they were no longer
needed.
Edwards presented Vogel a plaque with a photo of the
turbines and a citation that reads: "In recognition of his life-long
stewardship of the soil, expertise in all things mechanical, and
eagerness to share his wisdom and knowledge, James R. Vogel is hereby
appointed official 'Sidewalk Superintendent' of the Minonk Wind Farm."
Vogel
has been known to display photos of the plaque and its presentation at
various area coffeeshops and other gatherings. The Vogels have been
married for 71 years.
