The 86th annual Ioerger reunion was held Sunday, August 14, 2011 at the Roanoke Park Building in Roanoke, IL. Seventy-four family members gathered to enjoy a potluck dinner and fellowship. Before the meal presiding reunion president, David J. Ioerger, of Pekin, IL, led those gathered in prayer.
Barb Winkler, of Key Largo, FL traveled the farthest to attend the reunion. Other Ioerger relatives in attendance traveled from many different states including Berthoud, CO, Longmont, CO, Los Cruces, NM, Delavan, MN, Buckeye, IA and White Sulfur Springs, MT. Relatives also attended from thirteen Illinois communities including Bay View Gardens, Centralia, Chillicothe, El Paso, Germantown Hills, Goodfield, Metamora, Minonk, Morton, North Aurora, Pekin, Spring Bay and Washington.
The eldest relative in attendance was 90 year-old Kathryn E. George of Chillicothe, IL. The eldest man in attendance was 83 year-old Don Ioerger of El Paso, IL. Representing the youngest generation in attendance were Maxwell K. Ioerger, born January 23, 2009, son of David and Samantha Ioerger, and Alexander Jacob (AJ) Ioerger, born November 13, 2009, son of Ed and Heather Ioerger of Metamora, IL.
Those elected to host the 87th reunion are Jacob J. Ioerger of North Aurora, IL, President, Sandi Toepke of Metamora, IL, Vice President, Karen (Ioerger) Oljace, Secretary-Treasurer, of Washington, IL and Marvin Ioerger of rural Metamora, IL will continue as family historian.
For 86 consecutive years, the Ioerger family has held its annual gatherings in Woodford County. The first Ioerger to settle in the area was Michael Ioerger who settled in a northwest section of Woodford County in 1839, which was part of Tazewell County at that time. The reunion has been held at the Roanoke Park Building since 1973 and will be held there again next year on August 12, 2012.
