On August 4, 2009 the Minonk Community High School class of 1939 held its 70th class reunion at Mona's Restaurant in Toluca.  There were forty eight graduates in the class.  Of the twenty three who are living eight enjoyed visiting and sharing pictures and stories.  Ray and Emily Zivney hosted the reunion and read letters of regret from Bernard Halagiera, Mildred Jury Dooley and Emma Barth Knight.  Most of the men from the class were veterans of World War II and some members took part in the war effort. 

The classmates and their spouses and guests who attended the reunion were Monica Manley Barnhart and husband Ron of Leonore, Alice Stimpert Builta and husband Howard of rural Minonk, Minard Oncken of Northbrook, Adele Dovey Stalter of Minonk, Harry Green of Flanagan, Ralph Rossman and wife Bernie of Normal, Ray Zivney and wife Emily of Sun City, Arizona and Tom Goff and friend Lillian Malkus of Annapolis Maryland and neice Barbara Goff Westphale of St. Louis. 

This class was not only the first 8th grade class to graduate from the gym which was built in 1934 but the first high school class to graduate from the present high school building.  The previous building which housed the east side elementary students and all of the high school students was built in 1901 and burned down on December 12, 1936.    During the next two years the high school classes met in the gymnasium and and in the basement of the Presbyterian church.  The first day of school in the new and present high school building was on December 1, 1938.  Earlier that year the new and present west side grade school opened to all of the grade school students.  The gym which was built in 1934 and now houses the superintendent's offices, two classrooms and the gym lobby was saved during the fire.

When asked when the next reunion should be held, someone said in two weeks.  Although these old friends have changed outwardly their personalities are the same and they can ever be young at heart.
